Buying Whiskey as a Gift

Its never too early to start thinking of gifts for your family and friends. After all, there’s always a holiday or birthday around the corner and being prepared to give a gift is always a nice feeling. If you’re like most of us, there is someone in the family that just loves whiskey. Dad, mom, grandpa or a kid, whiskey is a popular spirit. So why not buy whiskey to give as a present?

If you are going to buy whiskey as a gift though, there need to be some ground rules. Or else you’ll just be wrapping up bottles of Maker’s Mark year after year.

- Find a specialist: Going to the supermarket or local liquor store might sound like a good route, but the best stuff is found at specialist stores and online.

-Get something unusual: Try to buy something you don’t see often, but don’t fall for gimmicks.

-Set a budget: If you ask a liqour store employee to help you find an interesting bottle, they can quickly start going for the expensive stuff. Having a price range is not a bad thing.

-Do your research: Find out what the person already drinks and go from there. Googling whiskey is easy and you can get a handle on the different varieties pretty easily.
